Miss Earth 2017 joins SPI’s massive tree-growing project

Feb 26, 2018

Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco joins SPI's environmental conservation and protection efforts by participating in a tree-growing activity held during a recent visit to the power plant.

Ms. Ibasco, together with the Ms. Earth Philippines winners, planted a Philippine Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) within the six-hectare mini-forest area near SPI's helipad.

The activity is a welcome addition to the more than 428,000 trees planted by SPI since 2005 through its various reforestation projects such as the 1,200-hectare Mapawa carbon sink and the 1,000-hectare Tagoloan and Villanueva urban forestry projects. SPI's goal is to leave a green legacy to the community by planting at least 1.2 million trees by the end of 2031.

Joining Ms. Ibasco are Vanessa Mae Castillo (Miss Philippines Earth Eco-tourism), Jessica Marasigan (Miss Philippines Earth- Water), Kim de Guzman (Miss Philippines Earth- Air), and Nellza Bautista (Miss Philippines Earth-Fire).

Dr. Carsten Evers led SPI employees in receiving the young environmental ambassadress.
