Jul 24, 2023

Members of the Youth for the Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) in Villanueva, together with the SPI employees' dependents took a remarkable step towards a greener and more sustainable future as they participated in the one-day Environmental Immersion at the SPI Carbon Sink Project in Mapawa, Cagayan de Oro City. The event saw the active engagement of approximately 42 youth participants from different high schools, all gathered under the theme, "Empowering the Youth for a Greener Future."

The activity aims to foster potential leadership qualities among the youth while instilling a deeper appreciation for the environment. Through a combination of informative lectures and engaging team-building exercises, the participants were empowered to actively contribute to environmental and developmental initiatives. The program encouraged them to take on an active role in safeguarding the environment, understanding that they hold the power to make a positive impact on the world around them.

The Mapawa location holds special significance as it hosts the SPI Carbon Sink Project, a 1,200-hectare reforestation effort and a pioneering initiative in the country. By immersing the youth in this environmentally significant site, SPI sought to inspire a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards nature. This event forms an integral part of SPI's ongoing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Program, designed to promote environmental awareness among the youth, particularly in the communities it serves.

With this environmental immersion experience, SPI continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and community engagement. By empowering the youth with the right knowledge, skills, and attitude, the company strives to create a generation of environmentally conscious leaders who will actively work towards building a greener and more sustainable future for all.
